First Generation to College
Welcome
Welcome to the First Generation College Student Initiative. In line with UCSF’s mission to educate and train a diverse student body, this initiative aims to foster support programs that meet the needs of this student community.
Who are first generation college students?
First generation college students are those whose parents/guardians have not obtained a Bachelor’s degree in the U.S. Without this family background, first generation college students are academic pioneers who may need support to build the social and navigational capital to not only survive, but thrive in their educational experience.
Join us
As UCSF students, faculty and staff who are first generation college and/or interested in supporting first generation college students, we invite you to participate in this initiative by:
- joining our Facebook community
- participating in future events and programs
- learning more about our committed First Generation College Faculty/Resident/Postdoc Mentors
- sending an email to share your ideas about how to make UCSF a great place for current and prospective first generation college students
Together we can create an educational and professional community that supports our promising academic pioneers as they flourish.
